Still thinking about vegetarianism

December 19th 2007 05:04
I'm still thinking about whether vegetarianism and veganism is better for your health. So far I have come up with a few cons for consuming animal products.

Cons
Your saturated "bad" fat intake will be lower. Saturated fat in found mainly in animal based foods and in some plant foods, such as coconuts. Having a high intake of saturated fat increases your blood LDL "bad" cholesterol levels, which in turn can increase your risk of heart disease.

Eating too much red and processed meat maybe associated with an increased risk of developing colon and rectal cancer.

Cooking meat at high temperatures can cause carcinogens to form. Therefore if you eat excessive amounts of meat cooked at high temperatures, your risk of cancer is increased.
