More food

As I go around Western Europe I have tried food that we don't get back in NZ (or if we do it is either quite expensive or not authentic). Since I last wrote I have been in Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and Czech Republic.
In Brussels, Belgium I tried raspberry beer and cherry beer. They are both sweet. The cherry beer tasted like a beer with a hint of cherry, whereas the raspberry beer tasted like a raspberry RTD with a hint of beer. Both were very nice. We also tried Brussels waffles which are light and crispy and Liege waffles which are doughy and sugary. Both are delicious. The former go well with strawberries.
Giants pretzels. These seem to be everywhere in Koln (Cologne) and Berlin. They're tasty and cheap. In NZ we do have pretzels but they are teeny tiny, bite sized ones. These German pretzels are large and doughy and they taste especially good when they are freshly baked.
In Amsterdam we tried pumperknickel bread. We can get this in NZ and I have actually tried it before. It isn't to everyone's taste, my partner didn't like it. But I quite like it with cheese, tomato and cucumber. Basically pumperknickel is quite a heavy, dark, rye based, moist bread with a slightly bitter taste.
I've only just arrived in the Czech Republic and I haven't actually tried anything I consider to be of interest. I write soon and let you know what I have found.
