Berry smoothie
Serves one
1cup ice
1cup frozen plain or berry flavoured yoghurt
100-130 ml low fat milk
Handful of frozen berries (e.g. boysenberries, strawberries, blueberries)
Method
1. Place all ingredients into a blender and blend on the slowest speed until all the ice is broken.
2. Turn up speed and blend for a further 30 second or until mixture is well blended. If the smoothie isn’t blending properly add more milk.
3. Serve in a tall glass.
This is an excellent sweet treat. It a good source of calcium, protein, potassium, phosphorus, vitamin C – nutrients which are essential for keeping your bones healthy. It also a good source of flavonoids, anthocyanins, and tannins, which are found in berries and have anti-disease properties.
Variations
For a banana smoothie, add 1 banana instead of berries
To make a banana berry smoothie, use about 3/4 cup of yoghurt, 1 banana and a handful of frozen berries
For a mango flavoured smoothie add 2 slices of canned mangoes instead of berries.
